Hi! I’m Karen Hong, a picture book author-illustrator.

I thank my Mom for reading lots of picture books to me when I was little! Those are my most delightful childhood memories. Picture books are my first love, but I took a detour with architecture and urban planning. Until, I began reading to my children and the joy of picture books was rekindled in me. 

I am drawn to layered images that encourage discovery, complex subject matter like grief and aging, and stories that explore the Asian American experience.

I am a member of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and proudly represented by Wendi Gu at HG Literary. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area in California with my family.
